Koster River 21 July 1900

The Australian Bushmen Contingent, operating in the Western Transvaal and on its way to Rustenburg was ambushed by the Boers at Koster river. Under the leadership of Colonel Airey of NSW, the Bushmen took heavy losses: six dead and 22 wounded. A number of men escaped to Elands River Post some 24 kilometres away where they were to be caught in a 12 day siege in early August.
