Queanbeyan Memorial Wall

Located in the RSL arcade, Monaro St, the memorial consists of a series of bronze plaques on a tiled wall. It does appear some of the names and initiials have spelling mistakes.

  • A Michael Joseph Commins, not Cummings, a trooper from the 1st Australian Horse, service no 391 died on the 27 June 1900 and there seems to be no M J Cummings who was killed in the Boer War.
  • Braithwaithe TG was possibly Thomas Gibson Braithwaithe of the border regiment.
  • Campbell there is an M A (service no 2390 or two Malcolm Livingston Campbells (service numbers 50 and 603) Edwards CJ was probably Charles Augustus AMC a captain, who is mentioned in the Queanbeyan Age Boer War era papers.
  • O'Neill C was possibly Charles Townsend service number 259, a private from the 1st NSW Mounted Rifles Pooley was possibly A Philip Sydney, or his first names are reversed as Sydney Philip, service no 1511 3 Bn Australian Commonwealth Horse NSW.
  • Rowley J H was possibly Samuel service no 384 NSW Citizen's Bushmen.
