Details of service in war: April 1900 in Rhodesia, west Transvaal including skirmish at Koster River (22 July 1900), and in northern Transvaal including battle of Rhenoster Kop (29 November 1900), great De Wet hunt, including charge at Wolwekuil (14 February 1901), and advance on Petersburg. Was wounded in action at De Burgs Pass on 7 April 1901 for which he was Mentioned in Despatches for Conspicuous Bravery on that day and later in the London Gazette on 23 April 1901, and by way of War Office Telegram No 7179 dated 23 April 1901, ironically on the day he died (23 April 1901 of enteric fever (typhoid) at Warmbaths), Trooper Angel was awarded the DCM.
